About Mount Banahaw–San Cristobal Protected Landscape

Mount Banahaw–San Cristobal Protected Landscape covers a sprawling volcanic mountain complex located in the Calabarzon region of Luzon, Philippines. It includes the twin peaks of Mount Banahaw, a dormant volcano standing at 2,170 meters, and the smaller Mount San Cristobal. The area is a biodiversity hotspot with lush tropical rainforests, rare flora and fauna, and pristine river systems. It is considered a spiritual destination for numerous local pilgrims who visit sacred springs, caves, and shrines scattered throughout the landscape. Geographically, it is nestled between the provinces of Laguna, Quezon, and Batangas. The protected landscape is vital for watershed protection, supplying fresh water to nearby communities and agricultural lands. Outdoor recreation here focuses on multi-day pilgrim hikes, nature trekking, birdwatching, and photography. Key landmarks include the Tatlong Tangke crater lake, Verde Trail, and the Batu Balimbing rock formation. Access is regulated by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to balance ecological preservation with cultural and physical visitation.
